Thank you so much Jess for nominating me for this, I’ve always had massive blog-envy of Unexpected Adventures and ya know, us English Lit pals have got to stick together.
So, what is the Sunshine Blogger Award? This award is given to bloggers who show creativity, positivity, and inspiration. Once a blogger is nominated, they are required to write a post in which they:
- Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog.
- Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated them.
- Nominate 11 other blogs and give them 11 new questions to answer.
- Notify your nominees and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post.
I hope you enjoy reading my responses!
If your house was on fire and you had time to get one object, what would you grab?
Ahh, this is a tricky one. I don’t particularly like to think of my house being on fire, but I guess if I have to then I’ll say I’d grab my cat. She DEFINITELY doesn’t count as an object, but I don’t want to sound materialistic and say my phone or something sad like that.
Which book can you read over and over again and never tire with?
I actually don’t tend to read books more than once. That’s probably really bad for a self-proclaimed book-nerd and English Lit grad, but I just think there are too many amazing books out there to be re-reading things. I guess I’ve read Frankenstein multiple times for school and uni and have never got bored of it, so that can be my answer. (I feel like I’m kinda avoiding all of these questions already lol sorry).
If you had no fear what is the first thing you would do?
Whaaaat, this is hard. I’d say one my biggest fears is probably quite a common one, as I’m pretty damn scared of failure. So if that suddenly disappeared, I’d do something that’s been on my mind a lot lately – I’d write a novel. Clearly that would take more than just a bit of confidence, but it would definitely help.
What is your dream job?
Good question. I feel like no one knows for sure what their dream job would be, and everyone’s just muddling along, trying to do what makes them happy. But I think I’d be pretty much sorted if I were a top editor at a Publishing House. Or maybe if I were the editor for a really successful author. (I once met Stephen King’s editor and I almost died). BASICALLY I WANT TO BE A BOOK EDITOR PLEASE HIRE ME. Or, it would be fab to be an author, but that’s probably taking the “dream” part of the question a little too literally…
What does feminism mean to you?
For me, feminism is just about equality. It’s about women and girls getting the same opportunities as men and boys, being paid the same for doing the same thing, and about a woman’s voices being just as loud as a man’s. Also, it’s about men and women being described in the same way (i.e. not just describing a woman’s appearance, the fact she’s whoever’s wife, etc.) Basically, we’re all the same and I don’t care whether she was wearing a fitted red dress, just like I don’t care that he was wearing blue trousers. Okay? Fab.
Did you ever think you’d be a blogger when you were younger?
No. Mainly because I don’t think blogs even existed when I was a child (?). Also, I still don’t really think of myself as a blogger – I just have a blog and I like to write things on it sometimes. I would actually like to get more involved in the blogging community on Twitter etc, so holler at me if you know of any good people to follow pls.
When did you surprise yourself?
I think I probably surprised myself at my latest job interview. Because I was so nervous, I was highly unpleasant to be around the weekend before, as I tend to just retreat into myself and then take it out on anyone who dares to even glance in my direction. So yeah, I was stressed. But once I was there, in front of the interviewer, I was actually fine and was able to put across some sort of positive impression of myself. I somehow got the job, so I must have done something right.
In what way has your life turned out differently than you thought it would?
WELL. I could probably write an essay about this one. Don’t worry, I’ll spare you, and just say that my life has not exactly gone to plan over the last few years. But I guess in general, I’ve graduated from uni (albeit a little later than anticipated) and I’ve got a job, so I’m basically still on track. When I was younger, I used to say that I wanted to be married in my early twenties, having my first baby at 24 etc etc. LOL, future husband, where you at?
Tell me one thing I might not know about you.
Ooh interesting. Or maybe not – I can’t think of anything. When I was younger, I was so terrified of everything that I used to think car doors slamming in the streets were gun shots? That escalated quickly.
Name three films you love.
The Intouchables (French, hilarious), Love Actually (classic), the Hot Fuzz trilogy (sorry if that’s cheating).
What place in the world would you love to visit?
Hmmmm. I haven’t actually ever been out of Europe before *sad face*. So if I could go anywhere in the world, I think I’d first of all go somewhere completely different, like Thailand, Vietnam, or Laos. As long as I could be transported there magically and didn’t have to go on a long-haul flight.
